kristenfromkansas asked: i want a corgi more than anything, but one of my cats hates dogs and i live in a 600 sq ft apartment. i have been trying to make friends with a few people in my neighborhood who have corgis, but, for some reason, they find my interest in their dog creepy. rude, right?

Ahahaha. I love it. It’s like trying to make friends with someone because they’re friends with a celebrity or something. Except it’s their dog. Maybe you should take up weekend dog-sitting or something. “Non-corgis need not apply.”

Disturbing Trend of the Day: In which Russian teens, in their own version of planking called skywalking, climb increasingly tall structures in search of increasingly dazzling dizzying photos. No reports of anyone falling to their deaths — yet. More pics here, and the obligatory video here.

WTF Russian teens? This is my worst nightmare. That video from that last link almost gave me a panic attack.

It’s the little things.

Things have gone all topsy-turvy at work over the past 24 hours. It’s sort of exciting and sort of nauseating and sort of can’t be discussed here. But it’s the small triumphs that keep me sane. After nearly six months of me forgetting to remind the phone guy, and the phone guy forgetting he needed to be reminded, I have a landline at my desk again. This makes me and my cell phone minutes happy.

Also on my mind: I might have to go to China for an extended business trip. All I can say is AHHHHH! And the thought of being ripped out of my comfortable life makes me want to cry while throwing up.

This tumblr cracks me up with every new post. You should follow it.

Kenneth Parcell and I share a birthday. This is the best news I’ve heard all week.

The 1940 census was released today after the 72-year confidentiality period expired. You can go here to check it out. Maybe I’m a huge nerd, but this is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. I managed to find the enumeration district for our house and look up the census entry for it. Our house was built and owned by Italian immigrants, which is not at all surprising since this neighborhood was called Little Italy back then. There were two families totaling seven people living here. The family that owned the house only paid $1000 for it (most likely to have it built), which is about 1/200th of what we paid for it. The family that rented from them only paid $14/month in rent! If I can find out some addresses of actual relatives of mine from 1940 I want to try to look them up too.
